NORTHBROOK — When Andreas and Ashley Hogue decided to open up Andreas Hogue, a full service beauty salon, their goal was to bring a city quality environment and high-end services to the burbs.

A year and a half later, they say they’ve achieved that goal.

“I wanted a salon where people would become energized,” said Andreas, who was a stylist at his family’s salon for 22 years, “We opened up during the worst time in the economy, but it didn’t matter because people came in and felt energized. They felt rejuvenated.”

“Our slogan is ‘Urban energy, suburban convenience,’” said Ashley, who handles all the marketing, promotions and events for the salon. “I think we’re there, but we are ever-evolving and we continue to work toward that each day.”

On its list of services, Andreas Hogue offers haircuts, color, texture, perming, smoothing, relaxing, Keratin treatments, waxing, manicures, pedicures and facials for men and women.

Aleks Veselovsky has been a client for six years, and followed him to his new salon.

“The salon is really beautiful,” she said. “It’s bright and energetic and alive, and Andreas really knows what he’s doing. I’ve never been disappointed, and I trust I will always walk out of here satisfied.”

Andreas Hogue employs 19 stylists, all of who are trained in both haircuts and color, something Andreas says is very important when it comes to clients.

“Haircuts and color walk hand in hand, and it’s better if one stylist does both because a good cut can really show off the color and vice versa,” said Andreas, who has studied hair care in London and Austria.

“I have a lot of hair,” said client Stephanie Solis, of Glenview. “My stylist, Katie, does my color, cut and Keratin treatment. I like that she does all three. She listens to what I want and I trust her.”

The salon carries six product lines that customers can buy for home use, including Aveda, Pureology, and Matrix. According to Andreas, the salon has a stylist affiliated which each company that produces the products he carries.

“We have to know everything there is to know about all the lines we carry,” he says.

Not only does he manage the employees, but Andreas is an educator for the Matrix product line, which he says he enjoys because the company is constantly training and updating him in color techniques. He spends most of his day doing hair, with more than 250 clients.

“With everything he’s got going on, training, teaching, running the business, he’s still so down to earth and really takes his time with me,” said client Susan Steinpreis, of Northbrook.

At times Andreas feels like a therapist to the person sitting in his chair, but he doesn’t mind when clients get personal.

“I love finding what people’s challenges are and overcoming those challenges and finding beauty,” he says, “Everyone has beauty. You just have to find what it is and find a way to highlight it.

“I know things about people ... you wouldn’t believe!”
