1. Island in the City Festival, July 12-15 at Norridge Community Park, 4631 N. Overhill Ave., Harwood Heights. The event features a carnival, live music, children’s activities and food vendors. Hours are 5-10 p.m. Thursday; 5-11 p.m. Friday; 1-11 p.m. Saturday and 1-10 p.m. Sunday. Live music schedule — 7th Heaven at 7:30 p.m. Thursday; American English (Beatles tribute band) at 8 p.m. Friday; I.A.M.B. (heavy metal), 4 p.m., Pipe Dream, 6 p.m., and Hi Infidelity (classic rock), 8 p.m., all on Saturday; and Friction, 5:30 p.m., and He Said, She Said, 7:30 p.m., on Sunday. 2. “Home” will be presented by Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre at 7 p.m. July 14 and 3 p.m. July 15 at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center, 927 Noyes St., Evanston. Originally produced by the Negro Ensemble Company, “Home” is a coming of age story about a young black man from Cross Roads, N.C. Tickets are $10 in advance; $12 at the door. 4. Northwestern University’s Summer Outdoor Cinema series presents “Hugo,” rated PG, July 18 on the east lawn of Norris University Center, 1999 Campus Drive, Evanston. The movie will be shown at sundown (around 8:45 p.m.). Bring blankets and chairs for seating. Admission is free. Rain location is the McCormick Auditorium in Norris Center.
