GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lauren Kriz looked like she was punched in the face. Her bruised left eye came courtesy of an elbow last week in Loyola’s regional championsip win over Evanston. Tuesday, it was the Loyola senior who delivered the knockout blows in the Ramblers’ 42-25 win over top-seeded Maine South in the semifinals of the New Trier Sectional.

Boys Basketball: Rebels rally for big win over Elmwood Park
BOYS BASKETBALL: Leave it to a junior to bring his team to life on Senior Night. Ridgewood’s Igor Cirkovic connected on three three-pointers in the fourth quarter to help the Rebels overcome a deficit and go on to beat Metro Suburban Conference rival Elmwood Park 61-51 Friday night in Norridge.

Girls Basketball: Stellar Niles North class closes career with regional final loss
GIRLS BASKETBALL: Niles North coach Dan Paxson struggled to find words to comfort his players after they suffered a season-ending loss to Maine South in the Vikings’ own regional final last week. He wanted more for the team’s five seniors, especially Alissa Hirsh and Mariyah Henley, who each played four seasons on varsity under Paxson.
