On Wednesday May 2, a sold out crowd of more than 425 came together to celebrate the Myra Rubenstein Weis (MRW) Health Resource Center’s 16th annual Luncheon. Hosted at the Highland Park Country Club, this year’s Luncheon was dedicated to “Living Your Best Life.”
Guests embraced the theme of the event by bidding on the extraordinary silent auction, which included Hollywood memorabilia, luxurious excursions, restaurant gift certificates, elegant jewelry and more.
After indulging in the silent auction, guests were seated for a presentation to recognize this year’s honoree, David P. Winchester, MD, FACS, FACR. Luncheon co-founder and honorary chair, Paul D. Goldstein, MD, presented Dr. Winchester with his award and commended him for the extraordinary accomplishments he has achieved throughout his four-decade career as a surgical oncologist. Upon accepting the award, Dr. Winchester shared anecdotes and sources of inspiration from his tenure. He reflected on what treatment looked like at the onset of his career and how it starkly contrasts to the leading edge care and resources, like the MRW Health Resource Center, available today.
Following lunch guests were treated to a lively presentation from California’s leading lifestyle expert, Dann Foley. Paying homage to this year’s theme, “Living Your Best Life,” Dann regaled guests with how he embraces this mantra on a daily basis. He encouraged guests to do the same by letting go of anger, filling your home and life with love, dressing for success, learning to forgive and, most importantly, giving back.
A portion of the more than $100,000 raised at the luncheon will provide funding for the Living in the Future LIFE Cancer Survivorship Program at NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore). LIFE creates a bridge between cancer treatment and post-treatment care by connecting individuals to primary care physicians, local support networks and resources as they transition to life as cancer survivors.
The Myra Rubenstein Weis Health Resource Center, founded by Paul D. Goldstein, MD and Eileen Rubenstein Goldstein, is proud to promote health education and health awareness to the communities served by NorthShore Highland Park Hospital and the NorthShore University HealthSystem community. The Heath Resource Center provides free, easily accessible, broad-based health information to help individuals make informed decisions when it comes to health and disease treatments.
