Authors from various genres engaged Ridgewood High School students Wednesday afternoon during what’s called the Breathless Author Tour.
Ridgewood High School was selected as one of three schools to host the Breathless Author Tour.
“With the popularity of books like the ‘The Hunger Games,’ suspense, action, and romance novels are in high demand,” said Jennette Gonzalez, Ridgewood’s library director. “These authors not only play into our students’ reading needs, but are a great way for teens to connect with books and authors.”
Students talked with four authors who discussed action, suspense and romance genres.
“This one-on-one connection makes the stories come to life, allows teens to hear about the authors creative processes and to hear about what makes them tick,” Gonzalez said. “Many teens never get the opportunity to hear from their favorite authors and such an experience allows us to celebrate reading and to help foster a more literate community.”
The authors included Marie Lu, author of the “Legend Trilogy” which takes place in a dark future, a time when North America has split into two warring nations; Andrea Cremer, author of the “Nightshade” described as a paranormal novel series about werewolves; Beth Revis, author of the “Across the Universe series” in which a girl joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard a spaceship and expects to be awakened on a new planet in 300 years but things do not turn out as expected and Jessica Spotswood, author of “Born Wicked,” a novel about eccentric sisters who turns out to be witches.
