Maine South production of ‘The Tempest’ blows through town Feb. 23-25

Maine South High School in Park Ridge will present “The Tempest,” William Shakespeare’s story of magic, humor, intrigue and romance, Feb. 23-25 in the school’s Watson Auditorium, 1111 S. Dee Road.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. each night. Tickets are $6.
“The Tempest,” first staged in 1611, opens with a powerful storm that wrecks a ship belonging to the King of Naples. Though it seems that all of the passengers have drowned, the audience soon discovers that the storm was an illusion created by Prospero, the mystical Duke of Milan, and the passengers are safe on an enchanted island.
The island has been recreated as a giant turntable on the Maine South stage. It was designed by technical director Pat Sanchez and constructed by Maine South’s stage crew under the direction of stage manager Mark Gotthelf.
Cast members of “The Tempest” are Matt Bonadona, Emma Frey, Gibson Odderstol, Ryan Mays, Sarah Thomas, Sean Cahill Lemme, Giuliana Bartucci, Carri Stevens, Jeff Czerwionka, Zack Wendorf, Drew Mathieu, Justin Tomczyk, Bryan Lubash, Maria Junkovic, Tess Tazioli, Neiv Hans, Kamille Garst, Tori Banser, Elizabeth McCarthy, Kathleen McCormick and Lily Elderkin.
Senior Alex Pantazi has written incidental music for the play and is serving as musical director for the student ensemble that will be performing his pieces during the production. The ensemble consists of Kyle Besetezny, Matt Coglianese, Britta Hoiland, Renee Kumon, Faye-Levin O’Leary and Emily Muszynski.
“The Tempest” is directed by Lauri McCleneghan with student director Emma Hogan. The play has been choreographed by alumna Annie Hoeg.
