Fourth of July fireworks and a parade have been cancelled in west suburban Wheaton after severe thunderstorms hit the area on Sunday.
“The community and participants’ safety is our top priority,” said a statement issued Monday by the Wheaton Park District, which added that the events have not been rescheduled.
DuPage County officials have declared a state of emergency for the region, and Wheaton Mayor Michael J. Gresk is expected to sign a proclamation declaring a state of emergency for the city, the release said.
The fireworks display had been slated for Tuesday, followed by a parade on Wednesday.
