Maine South Orchesis dances ‘Under the Big Top’

PARK RIDGE — Maine South High School’s Orchesis Dance Company will presents its annual show on Friday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Jan. 12 at 7:30 pm in the Maine South Auditorium, 1111 S. Dee Rd. in Park Ridge.
This year’s performance, entitled “Under the Big Top,” consists of various styles of dance which include jazz, tap, contemporary, modern and hip hop, with music from a variety of genres and artists.
“Orchesis shows are student-choreographed. This allows students the opportunity to explore their inner artistry as choreographers,” said Maine South Orchesis Director Amelia Faulstick. “This year’s company consists of 21 dancers. We have been rehearsing since the beginning of the school year and meet twice a week.”
Orchesis will be taking some pieces from their show to Disney World in Orlando, Fla. on Jan. 18. Students have been fundraising and preparing for the Orlando performance since the beginning of the school year.
This year’s Orchesis members are Allanah Baresky, Dora Bialy, Becca Blazek, Julia Bork, Kristen DiPietro, Maggie Fleita, Livvie Goble, Anna Graziano, Abby Greiber, Nicole Hassman, Kathy Helfrich, Megan Hinds, Francesca Inendino, Katherine Kopoulos, Lauren Konopinski, Haley Marcin, Caitie ORourke, Jessica Self, Marissa Sulek, Kendra Suba and Kara Webster.
Tickets for the Jan. 11 and 12 shows cost $6 and will be sold at the door.
