Pennoyer Elementary School has earned a 2012 Illinois State Board of Education Academic Excellence Award.

To earn the award, a grammar school must have made adequate yearly progress in 2011 and 2012 and must have at least 90 percent of its students meet or exceed state standards in reading and mathematics the last three years.

The Norridge school is one of 454 elementary and high schools statewide to earn the award.

The Annual Saint Patrick High School Walkathon will take place April 12.

Students will seek pledges to help close the gap between tuition, which is $9,400, and the actual cost of education, which is $11,000.

Students will walk seven miles to Wrigley Field, where they will watch the Chicago Cubs play the San Francisco Giants.

The Saint Patrick Men’s Chorus will sing the National Anthem, and the student who collects the most pledges will throw out the game ball.
