This summer, a group of teens and adults are embarking on an adventure using only dice and their imagination.
Fueled by an abundance of soda and snacks, they meet on Tuesday evenings to play the Dungeons and Dragons role-playing game at the Eisenhower Public Library in Harwood Heights.
Anna Slowinski, of Norridge, who is a tech clerk for the library, helped start the Dungeon and Dragons game at the library last summer because she wanted to introduce a program for older teens.
In the game, each player adopts a character — whether it’s a wizard, a warrior, a bard, or a number of other options — and develops a back story for their character.
“It gives it an almost acting aspect,” Slowinski said.
She’s playing a druid with a complicated backstory that involves glowing and flipping a coin to make decisions.
The dungeon master decides the situations that the players encounter during their adventure, which will likely last all summer.
“I keep track of what’s going on,” said Dungeon Master Tom Finnin, of River Grove. “I put together an adventure and they explore.”
The Dungeons and Dragons group meets on Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in an upstairs conference room at the library. Another group is planning to meet with them every other Tuesday to play other role-playing games.
