Giles Elementary School has earned a 2012 Illinois State Board of Education Academic Excellence Award. To earn the award, a grammar school must have made adequate yearly progress in 2011 and 2012 and must have at least 90 percent of its students meet or exceed state standards in reading and mathematics the last three years. The Norridge school is one of 454 elementary and high schools statewide to earn the award.~. …

Maine South High School seniors Griffin Stetson and Peter Hadlaw won gold medals in Web design at the SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Championship held recently in Springfield. Over the course of six hours, teams were required to complete a series of design challenges focusing on website usability and accessibility, with at least one challenge related to scripting. Under the guidance of Maine South advisors Joe Greguras and Bruce Atkinson, Stetson and Hadlaw were named Illinois State Champions for the second consecutive year. Resurrection High School officials hope a fake traffic accident will make a real impression on students. The demonstration Wednesday morning is called “Operation Prom Night,” and the school hosts it every two years to demonstrate the effects of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The Run for Res 5K Fun Run/Walk is April 20, starting at 9 a.m. at the Resurrection College Prep High School parking lot, 7500 W. Talcott Ave., Chicago. A course map is available at www.reshs.org. St. Patrick adopts tuition rate guarantee

The St. Patrick High School Board of Trustees, recognizing the escalating cost of education, has approved a tuition rate guarantee program. This will allow families to plan their financial resources in support of their sons’ educations. For each entering freshman class, the tuition will remain the same all four years. The tuition for the 2013-14 school year has been set at $10,000. The board realizes that private Catholic education is an expensive but important investment for families. Make-Up Entrance Exam Resurrection College Prep High School is offering a Make Up Entrance Exam for eighth-grade girls from 7:45-11:30 a.m. March 19. NORRIDGE — As high school graduation approaches, many students ask an obvious question: What now? Helping students explore those options was the point at Ridgewood High School’s second career fair. Representatives from about 40 companies and educational institutions set up shop Feb. 22 in the gymnasium of the school that serves residents of Norridge and Harwood Heights. This time around, the fair incorporated suggestions gleaned from last year’s participants, explained Jim Gyori, school counselor and fair coordinator. The Resurrection College Prep High School Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering Team competed in the WYSE annual regional competition on Feb. 1.
