A number of CSL South athletes qualified for Saturday’s Class 3A boys track and field state finals, but no one appears to have a better chance at winning a state title than Evanston sophomore Carl Klamm. GLENVIEW — Everybody on stage Monday at North Shore Country Club shared similar sentiments: It’s good for professional golf to be coming back to Chicago. Next month, the Glenview-based private club will play host to the Encompass Championship, a first-time stop on the Champions Tour. Jordan had been scheduled to run the lead leg of the relay, which had state-meet aspirations. However, the senior’s meet came to an end on May 16 when he rolled his ankle in the 4x100 relay. Competing in the second heat of the 1,600-meter run on Friday, Lemersal crossed the finish line in 5 minutes, 10.11 seconds at O’Brien Stadium in Charleston. She came in sixth in her heat. Maine South senior Patrick Daleiden has a passion for playing tennis and chess. He sees similarities in both activities. “There’s definitely a correlation,” Daleiden said. “Like chess, tennis is about taking all the right shots or moves, if you will. You have to outmaneuver your opponent in order to successfully win the match.” This year, Daleiden successfully organized the return of a chess team at Maine South for the first time since 2007. Maine South alumna Emily Epifanio, a senior catcher on the Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team, was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region first team. Epifanio started 37 of the team’s 39 games and hit .382 with a .488 on-base percentage and a .588 slugging percentage. She finished her career with 27 home runs, the third most in program history.
