Girls Basketball: Evanston stuns Maine South in CSL South matchup

Maine South missed ten straight field goals in the third and fourth quarters Friday night and dug too big of a hole against Central Suburban South rival Evanston.

The Wildkits took advantage and held Maine South to single digits in the final two stanzas to claim the 46-36 upset victory in Evanston.

Evanston trailed 15-9 midway through the fourth quarter, but made four straight shots during a 10-0 run to take a one-point lead before trailing 18-16 at the intermission.

Sophomore guard Seara Clayborn led the Wildkits with 14 points, 12 of them coming after the break. She hit two three-pointers in the third quarter and knocked down four of seven attempts from the charity stripe in the final stanza to help seal the win.

Sinclair Cunningham (13 boards) and Alecia Cooley each had 12 tallies for the Wildkits (12-10, 3-4), while Sierra Clayborn finished with seven points.

“We knew this was a statement game,” Sinclair explained. “We knew that we executed well and that we played harder than ever.”

Junior forward Jacqui Grant was the only player to click for double-figures for Maine South, totaling 15 points and seven rebounds.
